Outside Sales Representative

Reports To: Owner

FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary

The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for building and maintaining client relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and driving revenue growth. This role requires a proactive approach to prospecting, proposal writing, and closing deals. Initially, the focus will be on securing new clients while also nurturing existing accounts. Success in this role will be measured by key performance indicators, which the representative will help refi ne and develop.

Essential Functions

  • Identify and prospect new clients in industrial and manufacturing sectors through networking, cold calling, and other lead-generation strategies.
  • Build strong relationships with existing clients, ensuring satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Understand and present Myer-Hall Machine Works’ products and services to address client needs.
  • Create detailed and accurate proposals tailored to client requirements.
  • Develop pricing strategies and negotiate terms to reach mutually beneficial agreements.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitors to identify opportunities for business growth.
  • Maintain up-to-date records of client interactions, sales pipelines, and activities using CRM tools.
  • Prepare regular sales reports, track progress toward goals, and communicate results to the Owner.
  • Work with fellow employees to ensure smooth project execution and client satisfaction.
  • Gather client feedback to drive service enhancements and process improvements.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

To perform the essential functions of this position successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Proven ability to generate leads and close sales in industrial or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an aptitude for building rapport and trust.
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in CRM tools and productivity software (e.g., Excel, Monday.com).
  • Experienced with negotiating contracts and presenting solutions to upper management.
  • Able to work independently in a fast-paced environment while meeting sales targets.
  • Experience with high call volumes and a results-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3-10 years of sales experience, preferably in industrial, manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with industrial sales processes and client relationship management.

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

This position is largely self-directed and requires understanding and compliance with company policies, procedures, and values. The position works in an offi ce environment utilizing a computer and standard offi ce equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to interact collaboratively with the team and stakeholders and communicate via phone, video call, or text messaging. The employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The position may require travel up to 30% and will be partially based in Canton, SD
